The key to building an elite fighting force is accumulating Experience Points (EP). You gain EP for attacking, dodging or surviving attacks, using a staff, or defeating an enemy. Once a unit receives 100 EP, it will level up and start over again at 1. When a unit levels up, it gains bonuses in certain statistical areas.

Once a unit has reached a certain level, it can use special items (such as a Knight's Crest) to change classes.
