The final step in preparing for battle is to review the battlefield. You can get a sneak peek at the upcoming battle by choosing View Map. This option allows you to study the landscape, identify any buildings you wish to visit, scout your enemy, and plan a strategy.

In addition, you can change the formation of your troops around slightly. With this option, you have units swap positions (except for certain units, such as Eliwood). This is useful if you are planning to split your forces and you wish to maximize their approach by moving them closer to the action.
